This is a rare piece of sheet music for the song “CAN’T HELP LOVIN’ DAT MAN” sung by HELEN MORGAN in the Universal Picture film version of the classic JEROME KERN and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II musical comedy “SHOW BOAT” starring IRENE DUNNE and ALLAN JONES. (The Original Broadway production opened December 27th, 1927 at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City and ran for 575 performances. This film, with several members of the Original Broadway Cast, was begun in late 1935 and released in the United States on May 17th, 1936.) ….. This masterwork by JEROME KERN and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II remains one of the greatest of all musicals and musical theatre scores. The story starts in the 1880’s on one of the many American riverboats that featured traveling shows. The film starred IRENE DUNNE and ALLAN JONES and featured Original Broadway Cast members HELEN MORGAN, CHARLES WINNINGER, SAMMY WHITE and FRANCIS X. MAHONEY as well as PAUL ROBESON (who originated the role of “Joe” in the Original London production), HELEN WESTLEY, QUEENIE SMITH, HATTIE McDANIEL, DONALD COOK, MARILYN KNOWLDEN, SUNNIE O’DEA, ARTHUR HOHL, CHARLES B. CONDITION: With the exception of tape repairs to the inside seam at both the top and bottom, light surface rubbing to the back cover and minor edge wear, this piece of sheet music is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
