Mrs. Wiggs Of The Cabbage Patchby Anne Crawford Flexner Vintage Promotional Herald / Booklet Up for auction is a vintage souvenir promotional advertising herald or flyer, in the form of a booklet, measuring approximately 5.875 by 4.25 inches in size. Heralds are advertising flyers that are typically placed at theaters, and sometimes included in Playbills and Programs. This small, die cut, 8 page booklet is in the shape of a small head of cabbage, and is for Anne Crawford Flexner’s “Mrs. Wiggs Of The Cabbage Patch”, playing on tour, I believe in 1907. The original production opened at the Savoy Theatre, in New York City, in 1904, featuring Madge Carr Cook and Oscar Eagle. The souvenir herald booklet is in great, vintage condition, with no rips, tears, writing or damage, and minimal soiling and wear. This die cut, 12 page booklet has several holes of varying sizes on many of its pages, and serves as an advertisement for four Theatre Guild shows playing on Broadway during the 1934-1935 theatre season. Those shows include: “Mary Of Scotland”, featuring Helen Hayes, Philip Merivale and Helen Menken and playing at the Alvin Theatre; “They Shall Not Die”, featuring Ruth Gordon and Tom Ewell and playing at Royale Theatre; “Ah, Wilderness!”, featuring George M. Cohan and playing at the Guild Theatre; and “Jig Saw”, featuring Ernest Truex and Spring Byington and opening at “a Theatre to be Announced” which turned out to be the Ethel Barrymore Theatre.
