This is a rare single page advertising handbill (flyer) promoting the Original West End production of the WOLF MANKOWITZ, CYRIL ORNADEL and LESLIE BRICUSSE musical “PICKWICK” at the Saville Theatre in London. (The production opened July 4th, 1963 at the Saville Theatre and ran for 694 performances. The Original Broadway production would open October 4th, 1965 at the 46th Street Theatre in New York City and close after only 56 performances.) ….. The musical starred HARRY SECOMBE and featured JESSIE EVANS, PETER BULL, ANTON RODGERS, TEDDY GREEN, GERALD JAMES, OSCAR QUITAK, JULIAN ORCHARD and HILDA BRAID ….. DETAILS: Advertising handbills (heralds) were distributed or inserted into the playbills of other productions to help generate ticket sales for upcoming shows and events. This single page, two-sided handbill measures 5″ X 8″ inches and includes full production credits, partial cast list and wonderful graphics on the front and excerpts from several London reviews and ticket prices on the backside ….. CONDITION: With the exception of light edge wear, this rare handbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.

I’m currently listing a large number of playbills from out-of-town tryouts prior to the Broadway runs. Many are from early performances when revisions were common and include song titles that were cut before opening in New York ……. This is a rare September 1965 playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the musical comedy “PICKWICK” at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. (The production would open October 4th, 1965 at the 46th Street Theatre in New York City and close after only 56 performances.) …..
