In the mid-1980s, comic artist Joe Staton popularized a bold, "chunky" redesign of the Green Lantern power ring. Instead of the sleek, realistic lantern shape that was used by previous artists, his version featured a wide, thick band supporting a large circular center that mirrored the Green Lantern chest emblem.
