Original Playbill from the Broadway production of Jesus Christ Superstar, one of the most groundbreaking and controversial rock musicals in Broadway history. First opening on Broadway in 1971, the show features music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, and redefined what a Broadway musical could be with its rock score and modern retelling of the final days of Jesus Christ. Early production Playbills from Jesus Christ Superstar are highly sought after due to the show’s cultural impact and original Broadway-era significance. This production helped launch a new era of rock musicals and remains one of the most influential works in musical theater history. Original-run ephemera from this period is increasingly scarce and collected by serious Broadway archivists.
