This is a rare die-cut advertising herald (flyer) promoting the three-night, Post-Broadway engagement of the HERBERT P. STOTHART and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II musical comedy "ALWAYS YOU" at the Court Square Theatre in Springfield, Massachusetts beginning November 15th, 1920. (The show opened January 5th, 1920 at New York's Central Theatre, transferred on January 26th, 1920 to the Lyric Theatre and ran for a combined 66 performances before going on the road.) ..... The tour starred IRENE FRANKLIN and RALPH HERZ. The Broadway cast included HELEN FORD, WALTER SCANLAN, EDOUARD CIANNELLI, JULIA KELETY, RAY RAYMOND, RALPH HERZ, BERNARD GORCEY, ANNA SEYMOUR, JOSEPH BARTON, EMILY RUSS and CORTEZ and PEGGY ..... CREDITS: Book and Lyrics by OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II (This was his first book musical. Hammerstein's prolific career would include "Show Boat", "Oklahoma!", "Carousel", "The King and I", "Flower Drum Song", "South Pacific" and "The Sound of Music"); Music by HERBERT STOTHART; Sets designed by JULIUS DOVE; Costumes designed by HOMER CONANT; Choreographed by ROBERT MARKS; Staged by ARTHUR HAMMERSTEIN; Produced by ARTHUR HAMMERSTEIN ..... DETAILS: Advertising handbills and heralds were distributed or inserted into the playbills of other productions to help generate ticket sales for upcoming shows and events. This four page, die-cut herald measures approx. 4" X 7 1/4" inches (8" X 7 1/4" inches when opened) and includes wonderful graphics, production credits, venue and performance dates ..... CONDITION: With the exception of light creasing, this rare flyer is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
